Funding & Support
The entire New Observatory Project would not be possible without the help and support of the National Trust for Scotland, who have provided us with an ideal location and have allowed us to incorporate our design with that of the new Culloden Visitor Centre.
The latest progress report from the New Observatory sub-committee includes the fantastic news that Planning Permission has been applied for, with details being published in the Highland News of Friday 4th May. Also, the Building Warrant Application has also been made, and we have high hopes of opening the new observatory on Saturday 3rd November 2007!
Funding Organisations
The following organisations have all helped us with funding the project. Please visit their websites to find out more about them:
Through the contributions made by these organisations we have obtained a large part of the funds we need, however we still have some money to find. We are continuing to raise funds through our own efforts within the Society, and by approaching local businesses. We have already launched a scheme whereby members of the Society who contribute £25 towards the project will be listed on a commemorative plaque placed within the observatory when it is completed. Businesses who contribute will receive similar recognition and will also be mentioned on this website.
Benefits Available Through Helping HAS
We still have a real need for sponsors or benefactors who are willing to help us reach the funding target. In return, we have a broad and very flexible range of benefits that we can offer, including:
- Publicity on our extremely successful website
- Page sponsorship
- Advertising deals
- Membership promotions
- Special private observing sessions in the new observatory
- Organised science events, also in the new observatory
If you would like to find out more about how you can help us, and what benefits we are specifically able to offer you in return, then please contact John Gilmour or Pat Williams, or simply use our enquiry form to express your interest and we will contact you.
We look forward to hearing from you, and thank you sincerely in anticipation of your help.
Additional Funders
One Society member who has contributed to the fundraising is Lynn Robinson, whose website banner is shown below:
The members who have contributed to the funds by paying £25 to have their names immortalised on a special plaque on the wall of the new observatory will be listed here shortly. Our thanks go out to them all.
Supporters
Support for our project has also been given by Professor John Brown, Astronomer Royal for Scotland, and by the Royal Observatory of Edinburgh. The Rundle family, who are all members of the Society, have contributed some wonderful prizes of Patrick Moore memorabilia as well. Simon Rundle's S.T.A.R. Distribution website can be found here. We thank all of the groups and organisations listed on this page for their support.
