2016
Paul Jenkins became Chairman in 2016. In May, a clear sky allowed us to view the transit of Mercury at the Observatory and we ended up on the front page of the Courier. In September, we visited Dennis Buczinski’s Observatory in Tain. He photographs lots of astronomical phenomena and searches for comets. In September, Radio Scotland recorded an interview at the Observatory with Dr. Melanie Windridge who was writing a book about the aurora – Arthur’s experience with the aurora when he was a pilot was included. A film crew for Channel 4, making a programme called Walking Through Time about a meteorite impact centered on Lairg, filmed Pauline talking through the video of the asteroid 196 Philomela occulting a star (2010).
